Sean Gonsalves, a senior reporter and editor on ILSR’s Community Broadband Networks team, joined the City Cast Las Vegas podcast to discuss Las Vegas’ subpar Internet offerings and the advantages of city-owned broadband networks. An excerpt from the conversation, which was originally released on February 1, 2023, follows:

We have a broken broadband market that is dominated by monopoly or duopoly interests that wield a tremendous amount of power, and when you’re the only ball game in town, there just simply is not very much, if any, incentive to invest in network upgrades or to compete on pricing or reliability. It’s kind of like, ‘Hey, take it or leave it.’
